Kelly Clarkson's pissed - Wash, Rinse, Repeat
This is waaayyyy Inside Baseball, but I think worth paying attention to. You may remember awhile back the clip I posted where Kelly snarkily said to a concert audience that she only had "two more albums" until she was free from the shackles of her label. Part of the irritation for her came from her last attempted single Already Gone, which was written by a guy named Ryan, lead singer of OneRepublic. Ryan also happened to write Halo for Beyonce and people started to notice a strange simarity between the two songs. Kelly started getting ripped on as a song-stealer, when in reality, she'd never heard Halo when she was in the studio recording her last album. In truth, she probably never wanted to record that track in the first place since she has albums worth of unreleased songs her label won't let her record. Well let's just say Kelly is pissed. She's fed up with the entire way the music industry operates (take note, future Idols) and, pissed at cookie-cutter songwriters whose songs are being forced onto her albums and are just stuffing cash into their own pockets at the expense of other artists. If you think Kelly is a willing victim here, remember that she fought her label on My December and won maybe half the battle. It's her best album to date, solely for that half, but it's also her worst selling, so that was the last of her say in the matter. She's gone public in interviews and on Twitter about being pretty horrified regarding the Already Gone/Halo situation, but has tried to be mum about her overall dissatisfaction with life as a pop star.... UNTIL NOW! Rumor has it, this might make it onto the album, but I don't know how I feel about that. On one hand, it doesn't represent her musical aesthetic, but on the other hand, neither do a lot of the songs she's recorded. At least this one is on her terms. I love that she uses auto-tune to ironic effect and I think the end is particularly effective.
